Kick the Can

Kick The Can

  • 1.

With an adult, choose a large outdoor paved area that is clean, safe, and free from traffic. Use your Sidewalk Paint Sprayer to define the playing area.

  • 2.

Draw a "jail" large enough to hold several players and a safety area for players to rest.

  • 3.

If you choose to decorate the plastic container, use Crayola Gel Markers, which write on almost any surface.

  • 4.

Put a few rocks in the container (called a can). Screw on the lid. Place the can in the center of the playing area.

  • 5.

One player is chosen as "seeker." The others scatter across the playing field. The seeker stands about 10 paces away from the can.

  • 6.

Other players try to sneak up and kick the can before the seeker calls out their names. Several players can try to do this at once.

  • 7.

If the seeker spots a player moving toward the can, the seeker calls out the name and counts out loud to three. Players caught by the seeker go to jail.

  • 8.

If a player kicks the can before the seeker can say that person’s name and count to three, all players in jail are free. The game starts over with a different seeker.

  • Make a more elaborate playing field by decorating it with a Crayola Super Brush™, Sidewalk Chalk, and/or a Rainbow Rake™.
  • Use a ball, decorated with Gel Markers, instead of a water bottle.
