Crayon Shaving Art

Crayon Shaving Art

Turn ordinary crayon shavings into colourful wall art!

Supplies Needed: Crayola Crayons, Crayola School Glue, Crayola Paint Brush, Crayola Scissors, Crayon/Pencil Sharpener, 2 sheets of Illustration Board, Painter’s Tape and Contact Paper

  • 1.

Using the sharpener, shave down unwrapped Crayola crayons to create crayon shavings in the desired colours to create your picture. Make sure to keep each colour separated until you’re ready to create.

  • 2.

Using Crayola Scissors, cut out the frame for your picture from the first illustration board.

  • 3.

Take the scrap of illustration board and trace and cut out a star shape.

  • 4.

Secure the star shape to the second piece of illustration board using painter’s tape.

  • 5.

Using painter’s tape, create a boarder on the second piece of illustration board for your crayon shavings picture.

  • 6.

Apply Crayola School Glue within the borders of the painter’s tape. Using a Crayola paint brush, spread the glue to create a sticky surface for the crayon shavings to adhere to.

  • 7.

Sprinkle each colour of crayon shavings in rows to create a rainbow effect.

  • 8.

Remove the star shape and painter’s tape from the illustration board, leaving just the crayon shavings. Apply a piece of contact paper over top of the picture to ensure the shavings are secured in place.

  • 9.

Apply Crayola School Glue around the border and secure the cut out frame on top. Once dried you are finished!
